Cabin Rules

Other Information and “Cabin Rules”:

Excluding the private cabins, guests have access to most of the property.

Please respect the property, guests and residents.  We ask that your outside evening festivities at the cabin wind up by 10:00 p.m. and observe ultimate quiet time until 9:00 a.m.  When everyone is in for the night please turn off your porch light(s) so we can all enjoy the night sky.

University of Earth is a "Sanctuary of Sobriety" and intoxicants of any kind are not allowed on the land.  At the Lost Sierra Retreat Center nature is the intoxicant, come drink in the "moonshine."  Leave the cannabis, psychedelics and alcohol spirits at home.

Responsible Smoking is limited to outdoor areas only.  Please pick up your butts.  No campfires, except in fire pits at the river and at the gathering space depending on the fire season.

We provide linens, towels, and basic kitchen supplies.  There is no housekeeping.  There is a Laundromat in Blairsden if needed, however guests renting Eureka Peak Cabin (No. 3), have a washer and dryer for their use.

The cabins are heated by oil or propane heaters, electric space heaters and woodstoves.  Limited firewood and kindling are provided during the colder months.  Additional firewood may be purchased at Ace Hardware in Blairsden.  Ashes are to be disposed of in the metal bucket located by the woodstove.  Instructions for use of the oil heaters in Mt. Elwell (No. 5) and Eureka Peak (No. 3) are located by the heaters and in the cabin manuals.

We do our own snow removal for the cabins, and weather can be changeable during the winter months.  Come prepared.

There are no garbage disposals in the kitchens.  Table scraps need to be disposed of with the regular garbage.  Bears make it impossible to compost kitchen scraps. Use the plastic container beneath the sinks for disposal of bacon fat.  There is a dumpster centrally located by the cabins if you fill up the garbage can in the kitchen before the end of your stay.  Please remember to refasten the bear lock on the left of the dumpster.  Do not leave food outside overnight or it will attract unwanted wildlife!

The cabins are on septic and gray water systems, so please only flush toilet paper, and nothing else!!  We encourage you to use earth-friendly biodegradable products, as provided.  Conserving water is a priority.

Please wash your dishes before you depart.

Remove shoes when entering the cabin so nature debris doesn't make its way in.  We recommend you bring slippers.

Please leave the key with the cabin manual and turn off the heaters when you depart.  Enjoy your stay!
